Dr. Danny O’Keefe offers custom dental bridges at our Jackson, MS, practice to replace missing teeth. These restorations are designed to look natural and achieve proper balance within your smile. Dental Bridges Candidacy
If you are missing teeth, or if you are in need of tooth extraction, Dr. O’Keefe will examine your smile to determine if you are a good candidate for a dental bridge. If you are missing most or all of your teeth, Dr. O'Keefe will probably recommend a denture. Meanwhile, if you have any existing oral health issues such as tooth decay or gum disease, they must be addressed before proceeding with any restorative treatment.
Types of Dental Bridges
Dr. O’Keefe offers three types of dental bridges:
- A removable dental bridge is an artificial tooth or teeth held in place by clasps that attach to adjacent teeth. They can be easily removed, if necessary. Removable bridges usually do not require any modification of the surrounding teeth.
- A permanent bridge is attached to two dental crowns placed on adjacent teeth. To place this type of bridge, Dr. O’Keefe will need to remove a small amount of enamel from the immediately adjacent teeth to accommodate the dental crowns. He will then create a digital model of your teeth that will be used to create your bridge. Once the bridge is complete, he can secure it into place by attaching the crowns to the adjacent teeth.
- An implant-supported dental bridge is attached to one or more dental implants rather than the surrounding teeth. Dental implants are small titanium posts that are surgically implanted in the jaw to replace lost tooth roots. They are considered the absolute best way to replace missing teeth not only because they provide the ultimate stability, but because they can also prevent the bone atrophy that follows tooth loss. Implant-supported bridges cost more than traditional bridges, but their many benefits make them one of the wisest investments you can make in a compromised smile. During your consultation, Dr. O'Keefe can determine if implants are a good solution for your needs.
