Invisalign® Candidates
The benefits of Invisalign® are innumerable, especially for patients who:
- Suffer from mild or moderate malocclusion (improper bite), crowding, or gapped teeth. Dr. Belote may recommend traditional orthodontic treatment for patients with more extreme needs.
- Are in good oral health. We will need to treat any decay, infection, or gum disease prior to beginning Invisalign® treatment.
- Are committed to the process. Invisalign® oral appliances are removable, but should be worn at least 20 hours per day, so you will need to be dedicated to the treatment. Patients must also take care to avoid losing their aligners.
- Patients who do not grind your teeth. Patients who suffer from bruxism may not be eligible for Invisalign® because this habit can wear down the chewing surfaces of the aligners, interfering with your treatment.
At your initial consultation, Dr. Belote will review your dental records, assess the condition of your smile, and discuss your concerns to determine if Invisalign® is the right treatment option for you.
The Treatment Process
If you qualify for Invisalign® and decide to pursue this treatment, Dr. Belote will create a 3D model of your teeth by taking impressions, photographs, and x-rays. He will use this information to design your treatment and provide a preview of your expected results. At this time, you can ask questions about the treatment process and discuss any concerns about your results.
Once you have approved your treatment plan, Dr. Belote will send your information to the Invisalign® headquarters, where technicians will create your series of aligners. You will wear each aligner for about two weeks, returning to our office periodically so that Dr. Belote can monitor your progress. Each aligner will move your teeth slightly closer to their proper alignment. You should only remove your aligners during meals. After eating, you should brush and floss. Next, thoroughly rinse your aligner before placing it back over your teeth.
Once you have completed treatment, you may need to wear Invisalign®’s Vivera® retainer at night to maintain your newly aligned smile.
