However, since they are worn for the majority of the day, cleaning Invisalign aligners is critical in keeping your mouth and trays sanitary and healthy.

How Does Invisalign Work?
Invisalign utilizes a set of clear, customized trays to reposition your teeth. The patient wears each aligner for about two weeks before moving to the next set. Invisalign works to correct gaps, overcrowded teeth, and other types of misalignment.

If you do not clean your aligners properly, they can become discolored due to food and beverage stains. Additionally, bacteria can build-up, which can lead to an unpleasant odor. The bacteria could also damage your teeth and lead to tooth decay and gum disease. Clean aligners allow your mouth to be healthier and germ-free.
What Do I Clean My Aligners With?
In our Flowood, MS, office, we will provide instructions on the best products to clean your Invisalign aligners. It is a good idea to soak your aligners in a small bowl in a retainer or denture cleaning solution or a special Invisalign cleaning product once a day to maintain their look and keep them smelling fresh. You can also brush them gently with a non-abrasive toothpaste. Clear antibacterial soap is another option to keep your trays clean.
When Do I Clean My Aligners?
You should clean your aligners in the morning since bacteria can accumulate overnight. It is also crucial to clean them before bed. Every time you remove your aligners, you should rinse them off to prevent saliva and plaque from collecting. Also, when your aligners are not in your mouth, be sure to store them in their case to prevent bacteria growth.
Removing Stains
Stains or cloudiness can develop as a result of drinking too much coffee or tea or eating certain foods. Your aligners might also appear discolored if you do not clean them properly. If you notice any stains, you should place the trays in a bowl filled with half warm water and half hydrogen peroxide. You can soak them for a couple of hours or overnight.
We also suggest that our Flowood, MS, patients use a solution of half water and half vinegar to soak aligners for about 30 minutes. If there are light stains, you can dip a clean toothbrush that you do not use into baking soda and brush gently. Afterward, your aligners should look clear once again. If you have deeper stains that you cannot remove, you should contact your dentist.
